Initial Jobless Claims Jump 21,000 to 313,000 in Week Ended Nov. 22

WASHINGTON — Initial unemployment claims jumped 21,000 to 313,000 in the Nov. 22 week, with no special factors.

This may be a pre-Thanksgiving holiday fluke, even though the advance stemmed from surging unadjusted claims.

Continuing claims fell 17,000 to 2.316 million in the Nov. 15 week, pushing the insured unemployment rate down 0.1 point to 1.7%, a low since November 2000.
