The expectations index was 76.8, compared to the preliminary October 76.6, and the final September 82.7.
The current conditions index was 103.2, compared to the preliminary October 105.5, and the final September 104.2.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 88.2 reading for the main index, 77.0 for expectations and 105.5 for current conditions.
The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.4%, compared to 2.6% in September, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.4%, compared to 2.4% in September.
The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
