Final May U. of Mich. Index at 90.7 vs. 95.9 in April

The University of Michigan's final May consumer sentiment index reading was 90.7, compared to the preliminary May 88.6 and the final April 95.9, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 84.2, compared to the preliminary May 81.5 and the final April 88.8.

The current conditions index was 100.8, compared to the preliminary May 99.8 and the final April 107.0.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 89.9 reading for the main index, 100.5 for current conditions, and 83.1 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 2.6% in April, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 2.6% in April.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
