Final August U. of Mich. Index at 82.5 vs. 81.8 in July

The University of Michigan's final August consumer sentiment index reading was 82.5, compared to the preliminary August 79.2, and the final July 81.8, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 71.3, compared to the preliminary August 66.2, and the final July 71.8.

The current conditions index was 99.8, compared to the preliminary August 99.6, and the final July 97.4.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 80.2 reading for the main index, 99.4 for current conditions and 67.5 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.7% in July, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.2%, compared to 3.3% in July.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
