Final Aug. U. of Mich. Index at 89.8 vs. 90.0 in July

The University of Michigan's final August consumer sentiment index reading was 89.8, compared to the preliminary August 90.4 and the final July 90.0, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 78.7, compared to the preliminary August 80.3 and the final July 77.8, and the preliminary July 77.1.

The current conditions index was 107.0, compared to the preliminary August 106.1 and the final July 109.0, and the preliminary July 108.7.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 90.6 reading for the main index, 81.0 for expectations and 107.4 for current conditions.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.5%, compared to 2.6% in July, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.5%, compared to 2.7% in July.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
