Employment Cost Index Rises 0.7% in Q3

WASHINGTON — The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the Employment Cost Index rose 0.7% in the third quarter, same as in the second quarter.

Wages and salaries were up 0.8%, an acceleration from the 0.6% rise in the second quarter, while benefits costs were up 0.6% after a sharp 1.0% gain in the previous quarter.

Overall ECI was up 2.2% from a year earlier, faster than the 2.0% year/year rise in the second quarter.
