Edward A. Moos, muni veteran, dies at 81

Edward A. Moos, a past governor of the Municipal Bond Club of New York and proprietor of his own firm, whose career in municipal finance spanned more than a half century, died on June 8 at home after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was 81.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1937 to Henry and Dorothy Moos, Mr. Moos began his career in finance in 1961 when he went to work at the former Smith Barney in the equity department for two years. In 1963, he went to work as a trader at Weedon & Co., where he was an executive vice president and later became head of the fixed income department. He spent 15 years at the firm before leaving in 1977.

In 1978, Mr. Moos opened his own municipal bond firm, E.A. Moos & Co., in Summit, New Jersey, where he was a managing partner, chief executive officer, and chairman until his retirement in 2004.

Mr. Moos received a bachelor's degree in history from Houghton College in 1959, and later served on its board of directors for six years. He received his postgraduate degrees at George Washington University's School of Foreign Affairs, and New York University's Graduate School of Business.

He was a member of the Municipal Bond Club of New York and the Public Securities Association.

Philanthropically, he devoted his time to the disabled and less fortunate, and was a supporter of The Cheshire Home in Florham Park, N.J., serving as chairman of the board for several years; he was also a member of the United Way of Millburn in Short Hills,New Jersey, and a trustee of the Foundation of New Jersey Public Broadcasting at Houghton College.

His hobbies included international travel and adventure, from trekking in the Himalayas to biking in China. He was also an avid racquetball, golf, skeet shooting, and gin rummy player.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Louise; three children, Philip, Antonia, and Minh; 6 grandchildren; and his brother, Warren.
