WASHINGTON — Michael Bartolotta, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board’s former chairman, received the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association municipal division’s Honor Roll Award at a luncheon Tuesday for leading the MSRB during a time of unprecedented regulatory change in the muni market.
Bartolotta, vice chairman of First Southwest Co., was MSRB chairman from Oct. 1, 2010, to Sept. 30 2011, and will remain a board member for two more years.
“Mike has been a steady and conscientious leader during his chairmanship of the MSRB over the last year,” said Kenneth Gibbs, president of the municipal securities group at Jefferies & Co. and the 2012 chair of SIFMA’s muni division. “In a time when the board is addressing numerous issues within the muni space and in the midst of complex and challenging cross currents, he has worked in a dedicated fashion to be transparent and practical.”
Bartolotta has more than 24 years of experience in the muni market, serving as either a financial advisor or an underwriter for a wide range of issuers and other clients. He is on the boards of directors of his firm, its holding company, and PlainsCapital Bank in Dallas. He also is a board member of TexSTAR, a local government investment pool.
He received a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from the University of Illinois.
