Texas Sales Tax Take Tops $2 Billion

Texas state sales tax revenues in April totaled $2.15 billion, Comptroller Susan Combs reported last week, an increase of almost 4% from April 2012 collections.

“As expected, the rate of growth in state sales tax revenue is moderating compared to double-digit growth rates we recently experienced,” she said.

The sales tax has generated $2.46 billion in fiscal 2013, which began Sept. 1, 2012. Total collections are up 11% from the same period of fiscal 2012.

Total state tax collections of $28 billion so far in fiscal 2013 are up 8% from fiscal 2012. Federal income of $20.74 billion is down more than 5%.

Local governments will receive allocations totaling $668.5 million from the April sales tax collections.

Cities will share $441.8 million of the April revenues. The largest allocation will go to Houston, with $56.9 million. San Antonio is second with $24.8 million, followed by Dallas with $22.8 million and Austin with $15.4 million.

Houston Metro will receive $60.7 million of the transit district allocation, with $41.1 million going to Dallas Area Rapid Transit.
