Muskogee School Bonds Pass

Muskogee County Independent School District No. 20, Okla. will provide laptops to every student from the seventh grade to the 12th with proceeds from $49.5 million of general obligation bonds approved by voters May 12.

More than 84% of the 1,400 voters favored $47.4 million of school bonds and $2.2 million of transportation bonds.

All 14 schools in the district will receive technology infrastructure upgrades in the first year of the bond program. Laptops will be provided to high school students in the second year, with computers distributed to middle school students in the third year.

The district will also use the proceeds for building repairs and improvements.

The transportation bonds will fund the purchase of 12 school buses that operate on compressed natural gas. The district will convert its existing fleet to natural gas or electric operation with the proceeds.

The district’s GO bonds are rated A by Standard & Poor’s. Muskogee County Independent School District No. 20 has $4.5 million of outstanding GO debt and $18.1 million of lease revenue bonds.
