Monsanto Plans Missouri Expansion

Monsanto Co., the agricultural biotechnology corporation, last week announced plans for a $400 million expansion of its research facility in Chesterfield just outside St. Louis.

The project would create 675 scientific positions. The expansion calls for the addition of laboratories, growth chambers, greenhouses and other projects within the facility to support the company's agricultural research and development.

The company wants local and state aid. The project could receive up to $22 million in state job tax credits and the company is seeking $9.5 million in borrowing through the Build Missouri program, according to published reports. St. Louis County would provide $22 million in tax breaks.
