Final April U. of Mich. Index at 76.4 vs. 78.6 in March

The University of Michigan's final April consumer sentiment index reading was 76.4, compared to the preliminary April 72.3, the final March 78.6, and the preliminary March 71.8, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 67.8, compared to 64.2 earlier in April, 70.8 in March, and 61.7 earlier in March.

The current conditions index was 89.9, compared to 84.8 earlier in April, 90.7 in March, and 87.5 earlier in March.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 73.0 reading for the main index, 85.0 for current conditions and 64.6 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.8% in March, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.1%, compared to 3.2% in March.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
