Chain Store Sales Fall 1.1% in Week

Chain store sales dropped 1.1% in the week ended April 13, but held relatively steady year-over-year at a 2.0% rise, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs weekly survey.

"Sales were mixed by segment over the past week with this week's unadjusted comparison against the week including Easter 2012," said Michael Niemira, ICSC vice president of research and chief economist. "Discounter business seemingly was soft this past week, but apparel-store traffic improved for the week. Most other segments were little changed from the prior week's pace based on the ICSC-GS consumer tracking survey."
