Chain Store Sales Up 0.7% in Week

Chain store sales grew 0.7% in the week ended April 6, while rising to a 2.1% gain year-over-year, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs weekly survey.

"Abnormally cold weather throughout the fiscal month of March for much of the country curbed the consumers' appetite for spring apparel," said Michael Niemira, ICSC vice president of research and chief economist. "Sales for the current week were affected by those colder-than-normal temperatures as well, but the seasonally-adjusted pace of sales improved by 0.7% from the prior week or rose by 2.1% on a year-over-year basis for the week ending April 6, 2013 (the end of the fiscal month for many retailers)," he added.
