U. of Mich. Final Feb. Index at 77.6 vs. 72.9 in Jan.

The University of Michigan's final February consumer sentiment index reading was 77.6, compared to the preliminary February 76.3, the final January 73.8, and the preliminary January 71.3 reading, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 70.2, compared to 68.7 earlier in February, 66.6 in January, and 62.7 earlier in January.

The current conditions index was 89.0, compared to 88.0 earlier in February, 85.0 in January, and 84.8 earlier in January.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 76.3 reading for the main index, 88.0 for current conditions and 68.9 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 3.0%, compared to 2.9% in January, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.3%, compared to 3.3% in January.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
