U. of Mich. Preliminary Feb. Index at 76.3 vs. 72.9 in Jan.

The University of Michigan's preliminary February consumer sentiment index reading was 76.3, compared to the final January 73.8, the preliminary January 71.3 reading, and the final December 72.9, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 68.7, compared to 66.6 in January, 62.7 earlier in January, and 63.8 in December.

The current conditions index was 88.0, compared to 85.0 in January, 84.8 earlier in January, and 87.0 in December.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 74.8 reading for the main index, 85.5 for current conditions and 66.8 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 3.0%, compared to 2.9% in January, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.3%, compared to 3.3% in January.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
