Chain Store Sales Soar 2.4% in Week

Chain store sales grew 2.4% in the week ended February 2, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales Snapshot released Tuesday.

Year-over-year, sales improved and to an increase of 2.6%.

"The end of the fiscal month and fiscal year posted an up-tick as business was stronger for specialty stores, wholesale clubs, dollar stores and apparel stores, in particular, and steady on a year-over-year basis for most other segments," said Michael Niemira, ICSC vice president of research and chief economist. "The solid performance at month's end continues to support that the overall retail industry is improving and showing signs of overall recovery."
