Milwaukee ISM Index Rises to 54.3 in December

The seasonally adjusted Milwaukee Report on Business grew to 54.3 in December from 52.1 in November, the Institute for Supply Management-Milwaukee reported Monday.

New orders received dipped to 56.0 from 56.8, production slipped to 55.5 from 55.6, employment increased to 58.8 from 50.5, supplier deliveries climbed to 58.1 from 52.7, and backlog of orders slumped to 42.9 from 52.6.

Inventory levels declined to 42.9 from 44.7, customers' inventories fell to 42.1 from 47.2, prices grew to 59.5 from 57.9, exports dropped to 50.0 from 54.6 and imports rose to 53.3 from 50.0.

The blue collar diffusion index increased to 53.7 from 47.7, while the white collar diffusion index crept to 56.3 from 56.1.
