DALLAS -- Texas Tech University named Noel Sloan as chief financial officer and vice president for administration and finance, a post she held on an interim basis as the university searched for a permanent appointee.

Sloan was one of three finalists, who were interviewed in hearings at which students at the Lubbock campus were allowed to ask questions.

The others under consideration were Bob Brown, vice president for business administration at Texas A&M University-Commerce, and Cheryl MacBride, deputy director for services for the Texas Department of Public Safety Trustee, Employees Retirement System of Texas.

"Noel's background in tax law and finance, along with her experience and understanding of the university's financial structure, elevated her as the best choice for the position," said Texas Tech president M. Duane Ellis.

Sloan, a native of Slinger, Wis., and law graduate of Baylor University, arrived at Texas Tech in 2006 and has held positions as tax director, interim managing director for student business services, managing director for financial services and tax.

"I am eager to collaborate with our faculty, staff and students as we lead Texas Tech forward to new levels of success," Sloan said in a prepared statement when her appointment was announced Dec. 10.

TTU is the hub of the Texas Tech University System, whose long-term bond ratings are AA from Standard & Poor's and Fitch Ratings and Aa2 from Moody's Investors Service. With 33,000 students, the Lubbock campus is the state's sixth largest university in terms of enrollment and second largest in acreage.
