Pittsburgh Mayor's Race Heats Up

Pittsburgh city Controller Michael Lamb will run for mayor of Pittsburgh, challenging incumbent Luke Ravenstahl.

“It’s time to expect more than the status quo. I’ll be a mayor who expects more,” Lamb said before supporters in a coffee shop, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Lamb, 50, cited his record as controller and his role in the move to overhaul Allegheny County government, the newspaper reported.

Earlier in January, City Council member Bill Peduto said he would also run for mayor.

Ravenstahl became mayor in September 2006 after then-incumbent Bob O’Connor died of a heart attack.

Pittsburgh has applied to exit the state-sponsored workout program for distressed communities, known commonly as Act 47.
