Standard & Poor's placed its A rating for Chester, Pa.'s general obligation debt on credit watch with negative implications.
"This action follows our repeated attempts to obtain timely information of satisfactory quality to maintain our rating on the securities in accordance with our applicable criteria and policies," said Standard & Poor's credit analyst Le Quach.
S&P said in a statement that if it does not receive the requested information by Sept. 16, it will likely suspend the rating.
Chester, with a 34,000 population, is Chester is in eastern Delaware County, about 15 miles south of downtown Philadelphia and eight miles north of Wilmington, Del.
