Visnauskas to Succeed Wambua at N.Y. City Housing Preservation

RuthAnne Visnauskas will succeed Mathew Wambua as New York City Department of Housing Prevention and Development commissioner.

The department announced Mayor Michael Bloomberg's appointment on Wednesday.

Visnauskas, now the deputy commissioner, will take her new position early next month. In her current role, she is responsible for overseeing production goals under Bloomberg's new housing marketplace plan.

Before joining the nation's largest municipal housing preservation and development agency, Visnauskas was director of housing for Clinton Housing Development Co.

Wambua, commissioner since 2011, will become president of RHR Funding LLC.

According to Bloomberg, he kept the agency on track to deliver 165,000 affordable housing units by the end of the next fiscal year. "Mat's knowledge and leadership were invaluable to carrying out this ambitious plan," Bloomberg said.

Deputy Mayor Robert Steel praised Wambua for financing nearly 47,000 units of affordable housing.

"We also owe Mathew a debt of thanks for his tireless work following Hurricane Sandy to shelter those who were displaced and to put programs in place that will rebuild the homes that were lost," he said.
