Chiang Updates Compensation Data

LOS ANGELES -- California State Controller John Chiang has updated his government employee compensation website publicpay.ca.gov with the latest pay data for state government and California State University employees, he announced Monday.

The website uses maps, search functions, and custom-reported building tools to show salary and compensation data for public entities in California.

The data includes 58 counties, more than 450 cities, more than 2,900 special districts, at least 90 higher education providers, and most state employees.

“Government works best when its citizens are well-informed and vigilant over how public resources are being spent,” Chiang said in a statement. “Bringing the public sector into the digital age, my office is driving to make compensation data for virtually every public employee in California available with a keystroke.”

The site launched in 2010. In 2012 the controller completed an overhaul of the website, adding additional search, browse, and mapping functions.

Monday’s update adds wage and benefit data for 341,475 positions, with more than $17.5 billion in wages paid in 2012. The data covers calendar year 2012, the fourth full year of data for state and CSU employees available on the website.
