Preliminary July U. of Mich. Index at 83.9 vs. 84.1 in June

The University of Michigan's preliminary July consumer sentiment index reading was 83.9, compared to the final June 84.1 and the preliminary June 82.7, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 73.8, compared to the final June 77.8, and the preliminary June 76.7.

The current conditions index was 99.7, compared to the final June 93.8, and the preliminary June 92.1.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 85.0 reading for the main index, 94.0 for current conditions and 76.0 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.9% in June, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.3%, compared to 3.0% in June.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
