Kentucky Updates 20-year Transportation Plan

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is seeking public input on a 20-year plan that will create a strategy for the state’s improved transportation systems.

The update of the Kentucky Long-Range Transportation Plan will begin with a public survey to help determine if the state should focus on maintaining and improving existing roadways, constructing new roads or other modes of transportation.

The updated plan will consider changes in communities, freight movement, financial resources, economic development, rural and urban transportation, the environment and other transportation issues affecting the public.

“A strong transportation system is vital to a strong economy and key to maintaining a high quality of life for Kentucky residents and those who travel through the state,” Transportation Cabinet Secretary Mike Hancock said.

“This long-range plan currently in the works is the perfect way to establish our transportation focus for the next two decades,” he added.

The cabinet is distributing a public survey through Feb. 25 consisting of 19 questions concerning demographics, transportation needs and desires, and funding options.

The survey is available in electronic and paper form in English and Spanish.

A link to the “Your Turn” survey and other transportation information can be found at www.transportation.ky.gov.

The link will also provide compiled survey results in late 2013 as well as other information on the long-range plan update.

Paper surveys are available at Kentucky’s state and district highway offices and Metropolitan Planning Organization offices.
