A state commission on Wednesday approved 5% pay raises for California’s top officials and lawmakers.
The California Citizens Compensation Commission voted 5-1 to grant 5% pay increases to the state’s 12 constitutional officers and its state legislators, according to the Sacramento Bee. The paper said the increases partly replace pay cuts imposed during the recession.
The commission, which sets pay each year for statewide office holders, is made up of seven governor appointees.
Gov. Jerry Brown now makes $165,288 a year and lawmakers make $90,526, according to the paper. Elected leaders took a 22% pay cut during the budget crisis, the Bee said.
