Ousted Detroit Attorney Eyes Run for Mayor

Newly fired Detroit Corporation Counsel Krystal Crittendon announced Monday she is forming an exploratory committee for a possible bid for mayor.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, with a divided City Council's support, fired Crittendon last week. It was the second time Bing had tried to fire the top attorney, who last year challenged the city's consent agreement with Michigan and tried to block a badly needed bond transaction.

"Detroit doesn't need an emergency manager," Crittendon was quoted in local media reports as saying. "Detroit needs to manage its emergency."

Mike Duggan, chief executive officer of the Detroit Medical Center, is also considering a mayoral run, as are state Reps. Fred Durhal Jr. and Lisa Howze.
