Chain Store Sales Slip 0.6% in Week

Chain store sales declined 0.6% in the week ended Jan. 12, the second straight week of weaker sales, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales Snapshot released Tuesday.

Year-over-year, retail sales slowed to 3.3% growth.

"The post-holiday blues kicked in over the last two weeks as week-over-week sales slide as consumers had little reason to shop with the holiday shopping season a thing of the past," said Michael Niemira, ICSC vice president of research and chief economist. "The good news is that the overall momentum of retail sales continues to be relatively positive and should strengthen in the coming weeks."
