Webster-Hawkins Named Director of California Pollution Control Authority

LOS ANGELES — Reneé Webster-Hawkins was selected to be the new executive director of the California Pollution Control Financing Authority.

State Treasurer Bill Lockyer, chairman of the CPCFA, announced the appointment in a release Thursday.

“I’m pleased Reneé is taking on this challenging assignment,” Lockyer said in a prepared statement.

Webster-Hawkins, 49, replaces Michael Paparian, who has been promoted to a deputy treasurer position in the State Treasurer’s Office.

An attorney, Webster-Hawkins has served in a variety of roles in state government over the course of her career. Most recently, she was interim executive director for First 5 California, overseeing a staff of 35 and an annual budget of $94 million. Previously, she served as chief counsel and acting chief deputy director for First 5 California.

She also served as assistant chief counsel and staff attorney for the California Energy Commission from 2009 to 2012.

“Her experience and skills in administration, law and energy make her well suited to lead the authority in financing projects that keep our air and water clean and conserve our resources,” Lockyer said.

The California Pollution Control Financing Authority administers a variety of programs designed to provide California businesses with low-cost financing for projects that help keep California’s water, air and soil clean.
