Ex-Auditor Eyes Gov. Run

Former Rhode Island auditor general Ernest Almonte will run for governor as a Democrat in 2014, he announced.

Almonte, a North Scituate resident who filed a notice of organization with the Board of Elections, told WPRI.com he would make a formal announcement later.

Almonte has served on financial crisis boards in Providence and Pawtucket as well, and on the 12-member pension reform task force formed last year by Gov. Lincoln Chafee, an Independent and former Republican, and General Treasurer Gina Raimondo.

“I’m tired of advising people,” he told WPRI. “I want to sit in the seat and implement change.”
