Parnell’s Pen Slashes Less

Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell vetoed $66 million from the budget passed by the Legislature in April, much less than in the past two years, according to local reports.

The governor’s pen removed funds from various social programs, a court retirement fund and a moose relocation effort, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

Parnell said the smaller cuts were a result of lawmakers staying within his spending cap, the newspaper said.

Last year, the governor vetoed more than $400 million after cutting over $300 million a year earlier, according to the paper.

The state has set a $12 billion budget for the fiscal year starting July 1.
