Democrats last week appointed former state treasurer and public finance banker Kevin Boyce to the Ohio House of Representatives.
Boyce will take a seat that was vacated by former state Rep. W. Carlton Weddington, who resigned after being indicted on charges of bribery, filing a false ethics statement, and election falsification.
“I’m thrilled at the opportunity to return to public life and I’m honored to represent my community in the Ohio House,” Boyce said in a release.
Boyce joined Rice Financial Products Co. in February 2011 after losing in the 2010 election to current state Treasurer Josh Mandel, who is now running for a U.S. Senate seat against incumbent Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown.
Former Gov. Ted Strickland appointed Boyce treasurer in late 2008 when the post was vacated by Richard Cordray after his election to serve as attorney general. Before working as treasurer, Boyce had served eight years on the Columbus City Council.
His job as managing director at Rice was his first public finance job in the private sector.
