School Funding 101

The Ohio House Finance and Appropriation Committee this week will hold the first in a series of meetings on the state’s school funding formula.

Representatives said they expect hearings and meetings on the topic will be held around the state during the summer.

“These presentations are designed to promote a shared understanding of the basics of school funding, where we’ve been as a state and the challenges we face as we move forward,” Rep. Ron Amstutz, chairman of the finance committee, said in a statement.

The committee has three meetings scheduled through May 8. The sessions will provide an overview of how the state currently funds its school districts.

The final hearing will include a discussion on challenges facing the districts and how legislation might help solve them.
