Consumer Sentiment April Index Rises to 76.4

The University of Michigan’s final April consumer sentiment index reading was 76.4, compared to the preliminary April 75.8, the final March 76.2 and the preliminary March 74.3, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 72.3, compared to 72.5 earlier in the month, 69.8 in March and 68.0 earlier in March.

The current conditions index was 82.9, compared to 80.6 earlier in the month, 86.0 in March and 84.2 earlier in March.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 75.7 reading for the main index, 81.0 for current conditions and 72.5 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.2%.
