Lockyer’s Wife Resigns

California Treasurer Bill Lockyer’s wife, Nadia Lockyer, resigned last week as an Alameda County supervisor amid a scandal.

Nadia Lockyer, 40, resigned following an alleged altercation in a hotel room with a man she met in a rehabilitation program with whom she has admitted having an affair.

Since the alleged altercation, emerging details tied to the scandal, some coming from Nadia Lockyer’s own conversations with the media, have plagued the treasurer and his wife.

Bill Lockyer has also come under fire from critics for using his deep campaign war chest to fund his wife’s 2010 campaign, even as she was allegedly struggling with addiction problems.

The treasurer, a former attorney general and president pro tem of the state Senate with roots in Alameda County, bankrolled his wife’s supervisor campaign against more experienced politicians.

Bill Lockyer spent more than a million dollars on his wife’s campaign for the county supervisor’s post against opponents with budgets measured in the tens of thousands.

Lockyer’s campaign committee spent more on his wife’s local campaign for county supervisor than on his own 2010 re-election campaign for the state-wide treasurer’s post.
