Headwinds Stronger Than Anticipated, Lacker Says

WASHINGTON — Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond president Jeffrey Lacker said Wednesday that the drags on U.S. economic activity are turning out to be more serious than initially anticipated, leading to his expectation that growth will not exceed 2.5% in 2012.

“Some of the more persistent headwinds the economy is facing are more serious than we thought,” Lacker said in an interview on CNBC.
