More people moved into Louisiana over the last two years than moved out, the U.S. Census said last week in a report on population patterns, marking a positive growth trend after more than 20 years of outflow.
The state gained more than 6,100 residents through net migration for the year ending July 1, 2011, and revisions added another 12,000 since April 2010 that had not been reported previously.
Gov. Bobby Jindal said the positive population numbers resulted from increased economic opportunities in the state.
“Finding a good job opportunity is the most common reason that people move, and these new numbers continue to show that more people are moving to Louisiana because there are job opportunities here,” Jindal said.
“Every single day we are putting the old years of out-migration farther and farther behind us,” he said.
