Key Chafee Aide Moves On

Patrick Rogers will resign Friday as chief of staff and executive counsel to Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee.

George Zainyeh will succeed him.

Rogers, a former member of the East Providence City Council, will return to his law practice, Chafee announced.

Zainyeh barely lost to Chafee in the 1998 election for mayor of Warwick. He represented the city for three terms in the state House, rising to deputy majority leader, and was chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, whom he served for nine years.

Most recently Zainyeh was chief strategy officer for Family Service of Rhode Island, one of the state's oldest and largest nonprofit human service agencies.
