Gloria Martin-Roberts is the latest Harrisburg City Council member to announce her candidacy for state representative in the 103rd Legislative District.
Martin-Roberts, who just retired from the council after two terms as its president, will compete for the seat that Rep. Ron Buxton is vacating after 18 years. Buxton last month said he would not seek re-election.
Last month, council member Patty Kim declared her candidacy.
Meanwhile, the council intends to pay bankruptcy attorney Mark Schwartz $40,000 for his services, according to new council President Wanda Williams.
She said the council reallocated $20,000 from last year's budget and will pay Schwartz another $20,000 in March or April. "We're not going to pay him more than $40,000, and he is on page with that," Williams said.
Schwartz estimated costs at about $90,000 for representing the City Council in its Chapter 9 filing. A federal judge invalidated the filing on Nov. 23. Schwartz is appealing the decision.
