WASHINGTON — The U.S. international trade deficit was $52.6 billion for January, a 4.37% increase from the revised $50.4 billion deficit for December, the Commerce Department reported Friday.
The December deficit was originally reported as a $48.8 billion shortage.
The January deficit was greater than the median $49.0 billion deficit for the month estimated by economists polled by Thomson Reuters, and resulted from total exports of $180.8 billion and imports of $233.4 billion.
