Wilbur Smith Is Now CDM

As of Jan. 1, the consulting firm Wilbur Smith Associates no longer exists in name, and its headquarters have moved from Columbia, S.C., to Cambridge, Mass.

The action follows the firm’s integration with CDM, which purchased it in February 2011.

The new company is now CDM Smith, a full-service consulting, engineering, construction and operations firm specializing in water, environment, transportation, energy and facilities services.

“CDM Smith brings together CDM and Wilbur Smith Associates, two firms of rich heritage and world-wide reputation,” said a statement by chief executive Richard Fox. “With 123 years of combined cross-discipline expertise, our people bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and dedication to every client.”

The combined company has 6000 employees in 100 technical specialties, with clients in 28 countries.

Wilbur Smith is particularly known for its traffic and revenue studies, and currently is working on the high-profile Ohio River Bridges, a $2.6 billion transportation project by the states of Kentucky and Indiana.
