Kansas state revenues were $30.6 million less than expected in January due to more taxpayers filing electronically, which results in quicker refunds.
Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan said electronic filers get their refunds within a week.
Electronic filings are up 25% in fiscal 2012, according to Jordan.
Collections from the individual tax are down $33 million in January, he said, but total collections in the first seven months of fiscal 2012 are on track with projections and $200 million higher than the same period of fiscal 2011.
Sales tax revenue in January was $7 million more than expected, Jordan said.
