Nevada Agencies' Budget Requests Exceed Limits

Nevada's state agencies surpassed a cap placed on budget requests by Gov. Brian Sandoval by $419 million, 6.5% higher than the governor's spending limits, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

The state's politicians have been engaging in a public debate on whether the overages are essential or wish-list items.

Sandoval, a Republican, characterized the 97-page list of requests from agencies as a "wish list," but Sen. Debbie Smith, D-Sparks said that agencies were being conservative in their requests, according to the report.

The list includes $5.2 million for children with autism spectrum disorder, $11 million for 199 highway patrol vehicles, $58,000 in deferred maintenance on the governor's mansion to $161,000 for reinforced doors at the psychiatric hospital in Southern Nevada.
