Dauphin County, Pa., expects to make a $1.5 million bond debt payment for Harrisburg University for the second straight year, the Patriot-News reported.
According to the newspaper, the university's bond trustee informed county Chief Clerk Laura Evans that Dauphin would have to make the payment because the school said it lacks the funds to make the payment due in March. The county is the guarantor of the bonds.
Dauphin County gambling funds were used to make a $1.5 million payment last spring, the newspaper reported. The county guaranteed a portion of the debt used to construct the university's campus on Market Street.
University officials have previously said they are working the make the school self-sufficient, the newspaper said.
