Building Boss Tapped

Massachusetts Treasurer Steven Grossman has named Jack McCarthy the permanent executive director of the Massachusetts School Building Authority.

The agency helps fund capital improvement projects for public schools.

McCarthy had served as interim executive director of the MSBA since December, when Katherine Craven left to become the executive director of the University of Massachusetts Building Authority.

“He has gained an intimate familiarity with every aspect of the authority’s business,” Grossman said of McCarthy.

McCarthy is a graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University Law School.

He lives in Norwood, a Boston suburb, where he was town moderator between 1991 and 2003.
