Williamson County Authorizes Bond Spending

Williamson County, Texas commissioners last week authorized the use $36 million remaining from a $228 million road bond program approved by voters in 2006.

Mike Weaver of Prime Strategies, which is overseeing the county’s road bond program, said the funds include $16 million of unallocated bond proceeds, $17 million due from project partners, and $3 million in savings from completed road projects.

Almost $27 million of the funding will go to projects already under construction.

A transportation program developed in 2009 identified $3 billion of needed transportation infrastructure through 2035.

The county has completed 111 road projects under the 2006 bond project. The bonds have financed construction of 298 lane-miles, including 175 lane-miles of new capacity.
