Revenue climb continues

Texas collected more than $2 billion from state and local sales taxes in October as revenues rose 8.2% from October 2011.

The increase is mostly due to continued healthy collections in sectors related to energy exploration and production activity in west and southwest Texas, Comptroller Susan Combs said.

Local governments will receive a total of $611.5 million from the October collections, up 5.4% from last year.

Cities will share $404.4 million, up 4% from last year and 14.3% more than the first 10 months of 2011.

Houston will receive $51.7 million from the October collections, bringing 2012 sales tax revenues to $523.4 million. Allocations include $22.2 million to San Antonio and $21.1 million to Dallas.

Ten transit districts in the state will share $136 million. Houston Metro Transit will receive $54 million with $39.1 million for Dallas Area Rapid Transit.

Counties with a sales tax will share $41 million. Special taxing districts will receive a total allocation of $31 million.
