Revisions reduce tax base

Revisions and corrections to the property tax rolls in Pulaski County reduced total assessed valuations to $28.1 billion from the $30 billion originally reported to the state after a county-wide reappraisal was completed in April.

The Board of Equalization reduced assessed values by $857 million as a result of taxpayer appeals. The board raised the appraisals on 610 properties but lowered them for more than 5,000 parcels.

The other revisions were due to errors in the process, include one that listed a car wash with a street frontage of 100 feet as 100 car washes.

The initial reappraisal said property values had increased on almost 100,000 of the 173,000 real estate parcels in the county, which includes Little Rock and North Little Rock. The total increase was estimated at 12%.

The changes in assessments by Board of Equalization reduced the total increase to 5%.

A 2006 reappraisal put the assessed value in the county at $26.8 billion. The next reappraisal is set for 2017.
