Key Detroit Mayoral Aide Leaving

Detroit Chief Operating Officer Chris Brown is leaving the city to take a job at Vestas Americas, a wind power provider.

Brown was considered Mayor Dave Bing’s chief aide and ally for the last nearly two years, through a tumultuous time for the city and the Bing administration. He ran much of the city and its budget earlier this year when Bing was hospitalized for several weeks. Brown is the latest in a series of departures from the administration.

Brown joined the city in January 2011. Before that he was an executive at DTE Energy and has also worked as a state environmental official.

“Chris Brown played a significant role in helping to redefine city of Detroit operations.  His departure will surely leave a void,” Bing said in a statement. “The process of finding a replacement to fill the role of Chief Operating Officer will begin immediately.  I wish Chris much success in his new opportunity.”
