Inland Alliance Wants Local Control of Ontario, Calif. Airport

A non-profit alliance of businesses has formed to help Ontario, Calif. officials in their efforts to wrest control of LA/Ontario International Airport from Los Angeles, according to the San Bernardino County Sun.

The airport is currently run by Los Angeles World Airports, city of Los Angeles-owned the entity that runs Los Angeles International Airport and two other regional airports.

The alliance will advocate for new management of the struggling airport and develop a much-needed marketing plan, according to the report. The hope is that the financial support and clout of the business community will convince LAWA to relinquish the asset to a regional authority.

Since 2008, the Ontario airport has experienced a 4.5 million annual decrease in passengers.

The alliance will also serve as a support entity to the newly formed Ontario International Airport Authority, which would manage the airport if transfer were to occur.
